SpotNow

A full-stack, crowdsourced mobile application that provides current condition reports for outdoor public places.

Section 01

Why I built it

Information about outdoor public spaces is often static or outdated. A location may appear suitable online while current conditions such as crowd levels, insects, water quality, odour, or weather effects make the visit less enjoyable.

SpotNow was created to help people assess those conditions before committing time to a trip.

Section 02

Current information, not old reviews

Official sources are useful for rules, parking, and closures, but they rarely capture conditions as they change throughout the day. Traditional reviews may also be weeks or months old. SpotNow addresses this gap by allowing current and recent visitors to share timely, location-specific reports.

Users can discover outdoor locations through a feed, search, or map, then review recent reports covering crowd levels, insects, noise, water cleanliness, smell, and general conditions. They can also contribute structured updates, comment on posts, and save locations for later, keeping each report connected to a specific place and time.

Section 03

Building SpotNow

I developed the mobile client with Flutter and built the backend using ASP.NET Core and PostgreSQL. REST endpoints support users, locations, posts, comments, and related location data, while Swagger/OpenAPI was used for API documentation and testing. Docker supported the backend environment, Azure was used for deployment and testing, and n8n was connected to AI-assisted moderation and operational automation.
